Waterfall restoration

History

The focus of this project is the critical stabilization and restoration of Manitoga’s nationally-landmarked Waterfall, designed by Russel & Mary Wright during the transformation of the grounds from abandoned quarry into the Manitoga you see today.

Restoration 2022 and ongoing

  • Field inspection and Waterfall Restoration Proposal by Peter Jensen, Master Trail Planner

  • Assessment of Quarry stream corridor and watershed by Doug Thompson, Fluvial Geomorphologist

  • Received wetland permit from the Dept. of Environmental Conservation and Town of Philipstown and approval from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers

Beginning November 1, 2022

  • Clear Midway Pool of dislodged boulders

  • Stabilize Waterfall Bridge and side walls

  • Reconstruct original threshold
