Group Tour
Visit Manitoga, the House, Studio and Woodland Garden of pioneer industrial designer, Russel Wright (1904-1976). Tour Dragon Rock, Wright’s experimental home which he built onto the rock ledge of an abandoned quarry while masterfully orchestrating the surrounding landscape into a series of outdoor rooms of varying character and delight.
GROUP tour
Special group tours offer a focused experience of the architecture, landscape and collections at Manitoga for a minimum of 12 people. Larger groups must be split into smaller tour groups due to the sensitive nature and scale of the site. Group tours begin at $30 per person with additional fees per person dependent upon group size, and are available by appointment only. Please note that there are transportation guidelines. Group Tours must be arranged at least 2 weeks in advance, during the Public Tour season and OUTSIDE of Public Tour dates and times. Advance reservations required.
THE TOUR EXPERIENCE
Visitors follow the upper Quarry path to enjoy stunning views of the Quarry Pool, House and Studio. An ascending stone stair leads to a mountain laurel grove and the exquisite moss rooms before visitors cross a majestic waterfall over a wood plank bridge. Once at Dragon Rock, the House and Studio interiors are defined by expanses of glass, innovative materials use, and seamless connections to outside terraces. Guests are invited to explore the new Russel & Mary Wright Design Gallery, built to permanently display the Wrights’ ground-breaking designs for the American home at Manitoga. The experience concludes by following a stepping stone path over the Quarry Pool dam back to the Visitor/Guide House.
All Group Tours include The Russel & Mary Wright Design Gallery at Manitoga, featuring over 200 objects from the Wrights’ ground-breaking designs for the American home, with lead support from the Henry Luce Foundation.
